Neo himself has discovered his superpowers including super speed, ability to see the codes of the things inside the matrix, and a certain degree of precognition. But a nasty piece of news hits the human resistance: 250,000 machine sentinels are digging to Zion and would reach them in 72 hours. As Zion prepares for the ultimate war, Neo, Morpheus and Trinity are advised by the Oracle to find the Keymaker who would help them reach the Source. Meanwhile Neo's recurrent dreams depicting Trinity's death have got him worried andif it was not enough, Agent Smith has somehow escaped deletion, has become more powerful than before and has chosen Neohis next target.
Watched it yesterday with my girlfriend. We both loved the first one and agree that the second one fully lives up to expectations - provided of course that you expect a sequel to be an attempt to squeeze of few more drops of juice out of an already old and used lemon.

If you expect a movie that is more than just elaborately choreographed fight scenes (and even they get uninteresting because they lack suspense and effort from Neo) you will be disappointed.

After watching the movie we really tried hard to think of something positive to say about it, and the most positive we could find was that it was interesting that Smith is now a virus kinda program.

We are certainly NOT going to see Revolutions on the big screen. Maybe if we really get bored we will consider watching it on video…

Don't waste your money - or worse: your time!
I think the hardest thing to do in the entertainment field is to make a good, fresh sequel off of a great, fresh original movie. The Matrix, while not being completely originalfarstory, was fresh, exciting, and gave people sights and sounds that no one had ever seen before. To come back to that and recreate the magic is very hard.

The Matrix Reloaded comes close to recapturing that magic. It is a visual feastival that leaves everyone breathless after several wonderful actions sequences. There are some things that don't work, some things that don't make a whole hell of a lot of sense, but overall a great sequel to a fantastic original.

What didn't work? Well, lets run some things down.

Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, the scene in Zion, which includes the most uncomfortable sex scene between Neo and Trinity ever. It seems to waver between wanting to be a soft core love scene and a artfully done romantic sequence. The Zion dance scene is strange and hard to watch. It basically is a rave with thousands of people dressed like Buddhist monks, a far cry from the leather clad heroes they are in the Matrix

Second, the whole scene with Merovingian, or really the whole story line with him and his program/lover. Just an unnecessary scene with a lot of philisophical talk of choice that seems to just drone on and on and on. And also, the fact that they made this character French, which has its own implications but is grating on the earsone tries to understand the dialogue, is not needed. Just very strange dialogue, and a character that is not needed at all. After leaving the theatre I felt almost like I did after leaving Phantom Menace with Jar Jar in there. Why do that to a perfectly great movie?

Third, the conversation with the Arcithect is just far too confusing. I do not mind high dialogue, or philisophical conversations, which is fine for this action movie with a mind, but with such a pivotal part of the movie, really the crux of what the rest of the series will be about, on the line the dialogue should be coherent. The audience should ne able to follow it completely and I don't think most of them could. Actually, it might be a wondeful ploy by the directors since I know I will be going back to see the movie to get my facts about that conversation straight and a lot of other people willwell. Its not the only reason to see it again but it sure is a close one.

Fourth, the destruction of Zion at the end. Ok, Zion has been destroyed I guess. What happened? How many survived? Why isn't anyone else seemingly upset about this? I mean we have Link, whose girlfriend/wife is still in Zion when he left, and yet when hearing of the news there is no mentionto whether or not any of the crews loved ones survived. Needed a little more then that.

What worked?

The fight scenes. I know people became upset because the last movie left off where Neo seemingly no longer needed to get his Crouching Tiger on with every agent in the Matrix. Why fight someone when you can just jump into them and destroy them? But I rather like the action sequences and really, if he wasn't fighting them, what exactly would the action sequence be? Neo, jumping into agent after agent and just destroying them? Not fun. Plus, in the beginning,he goesd to punch an agent and is blocked, which prompts him to say " Updates?" and continue on fighting. I just simply chose to let that line explain away the fact that kung fu fighting was still needed. The machines had adapted to his powers, some of them, and he could not simply destroy them the way he had before.

The relationship between the characters. Neo and Morpheus seem to be in a very strange place. Morpheus is still the leader, but really it is what Neo says that goes. The oracle wants to talk to him and no one else, when there is a problem Neo takes control, ordering people where they need to be to survive. Yet Neo still bows to Morpheus and his wishes.

The love between Neo and Trinity is a little too intense, seemingly rapped up in hot sex and fear of death. But it is well done and is vital to the ending where N eo chooses to save Trinity rather then Zion.

The chase scene. What a ride. Best chase scene I have ever seen. Actually words cannot express how wonderful this scene is done. They have wonderful visual effects with wonderful fast actions moves. CGI and the live action is blended very well. It is worth the price of admission to see this scene.

So there are some things that work, some that don't but overall it is a wild ride that needs to be seen. I will be going back to see it again, and from what I have heard people have actually enjoyed it more the second time around, with the expectations a little diminished. On a scale of 1-10, I would give it and 8.5.
The martial arts choreography is neither graceful nor exciting–it's worthy of a video game. Only after cars, trucks, and a motorcycle join the action–easily outclassing all the actors–does the movie take on a modicum of vitality.
Zion prepares for an attack by the machines, who are boring down from the surface in an attempt to annihilate the only free humans still remaining on the planet. Although finally convinced that he is the One, Neo (Keanu Reeves) isn't sure what he is supposed to do. Consequently, he, Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) again seek council from the Oracle (Gloria Foster), and the news is not good. Neo is told that he must find the Keymaker and enter the Source, the machine mainframe, and that, at some point, he's going to have to choose whether Trinity lives or dies. The Matrix Reloaded is the second film in the Matrix trilogy, preceded by The Matrix (1999) (1999) and followed by The Matrix Revolutions (2003) (2003). Like The Matrix before it, the screenplay for Reloaded was written and directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski. So far, there have been no official novelizations. Six months. In the interim, the surviving crew of the Nebuchadnezzar have been protecting the people of Zion and freeing other humans enslaved in the Matrix. Yes,Mr Smith or simply Smith. Although it seemed that Neo destroyed Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) at the end of The Matrix, Smith has the ability to reboot himself. In Reloaded, he returns with the additional ability of being able to indeterminately replicate himself by overwriting any software hardwired—or even otherwise connected—to the Matrix. Tank (Marcus Chong) was wounded by Cypher (Joe Pantoliano) in the first film. In Reloaded, he has been replacedthe Nebuchadnezzar's Operator by Link (Harold Perrineau). When Link is talking to Zee (Nona Gaye), she says that she lost two brothers (Tank and Dozer) to the Nebuchadnezzar. It can be assumed that Tank either died of his wounds or was killed on a mission in between the films. In real life, Chong demanded a higher salary for the second movie and was let go by the producers. The Oracle explains this quite clearly, stating that Neo was not ready to hear the truth. The Oracle is describedan "intuitive" program, implying that she doesn't see the future, but is more of a guide along the way. She never actually tells Neo what is going to happen and more often defers to "You'll just have to make up your own damn mind." She also clearly states, "I'm interested in one thing, Neo. The future. And I know the only way to get there is together." This implies that she is on both sides (machine and human) but not necessarily playing them against each other; instead, attempting to find a harmony for both. War is by its very nature destructive to both sides ("There are levels of survival which we are willing to accept"), whereas peace is usually more constructive. That was an excerpt from The Brides of Dracula (1960) (1960). The Twins, (Adrian Rayment) and (Neil Rayment), are leftover programs from a previous version of the Matrix. When the Architect (Helmut Bakaitis) created the first Matrix, it was an utopian society. The human psyche rejected this environment, and it crashed. The second version of the Matrix was the complete opposite of the first. (It was a dystopian society with supernatural mythological figures (including ghosts, werewolves, and vampires.) The human psyche also rejected this environment, resulting in a crash. When the third and stable version of the Matrix was created, programs from previous versions were considered obsolete, and many were purged. Some went to work for the Merovingian (Lambert Wilson), who protected them from deletion. The Twins have been variously describedghosts, specters, or wraiths. The Architect reveals that the original version of the Matrix was designed to be a paradise free from suffering. However this version was a "monumental failure" because humans, for whom evil is in their nature and suffering is an inherent part of their life, saw through the illusion. Instead, the Architect created a version of the Matrix which resembled a somewhat dystopian version of late 20th century Earth ("the peak of your civilization"). While this version fooled 99.9% of people into thinking it was reality, a small number of people were ultimately unsure of it and risked rejection. As a safety valve, the Machines created Zion, a supposedly free community of human beings. Zion's role was to find and remove from the Matrix human beings who could not ultimately accept its reality. However, if left unchecked, the population of Zion would eventually grow so largeto threaten the entire foundation of the Matrix and the machines' society. So the machines would gradually "reboot" the safety valve by destroying Zion and wiping out its population. As part of this cycle they created the idea of "the one", a being who had special ability to manipulate the Matrix. The One contained within his makeup special code which was integral to the survival of the Matrix. He was also programmed to have a generalized empathy with, and desire to preserve, humanity. With Zion destroyed by the machines, The One would be given a choice of either returning to the Matrix and guaranteeing its continued survival or of allowing the system to fail, thus killing all of the humans plugged into the system. He would also be tasked with picking a group of people from within the Matrix to create a new version of Zion, thus starting the whole cycle over again. After explaining to Neo his purpose in the Matrix, the Architect presents him with two doors: the door on the right leads to the Source, while the door on the left leads to Trinity, who is falling justin Neo's dream. Flyingquicklypossible, Neo catches her just seconds before she hits the ground and carries her to the top of a building where he reaches through the code of the Matrix and extracts the bullet, but it is too late. Trinity's heart stops beating, and she dies both in the Matrix and on the Nebuchadnezzar. Refusing to accept her death, Neo reaches through the code against and squeezes her heart, causing it to start beating again. Later, back on the Nebuchadnezzar, Morpheus can't believe that the Oracle's prophecy has not come true. Neo explains that the prophecy was a lie, another part of the Matrix meant to control them. Suddenly, the proximity alarm goes off, alerting the crew that Sentinels are near. They flee the ship just in time to watch it blown apart. As the Sentinels come after them, Neo suddenly stops running and exclaims, "Something's different…I can feel them." He raises his hand and, like an EMP, stops them in mid-air, sending the Sentinels crashing to the ground. However, the strain is too much on Neo, and he also collapses, justthe Hammer arrives to rescue them. While Neo lies unconscious in sickbay, Trinity at his side, the Hammer crew tells Morpheus and Link about the counterattack Commander Lock (Harry Lennix) had planned but explains that someone screwed up and fired an EMP before they were in position, turning it into a slaughter. There was only one survivor, and he now lies unconscious in the sickbay of the Hammer with Neo. In the final scene, the camera pans from Neo to the patient lying next to him. It is Bane. Bane (Ian Bliss) was a crewman on the Cadeusus before his body was taken over by Smith, on the night of the Zion party. If by "saved" we mean the salvation of Zionthe Architect describes it (picking certain people to repopulate Zion), it would (by assumption) be what the Machines expected to happen. They didn't necessarily have a plan for situation otherwise, but most likely they did—with or without the guidance or consent, of Architect or of the other capitol programs. If Neo attempted to rescue Zion, he would fail ("rest assured, this will be the sixth time we have destroyed it, and we have become exceedingly efficient at it"), and the Machines would allow the Matrix to go irreversibly offline ("a cataclysmic system crash killing everyone connected"), thereby exterminating humanity altogether and threatening the Machines' continued existence (thus possibly tantamount to mutual assured destruction), but the Architect also assures Neo, "There are levels of survival we are prepared to accept."
